The NEBOSH Environmental Course consists of two units: EMC1 and EMC2.
Unit EMC1 covers Environmental Management, concluding with an open-book examination. During this unit, you will learn about:

Element 3: Assessing Environmental Aspects and Impacts
Element 4: How To Plan For And Deal With Environmental Emergencies
Unit EMC2 covers how to assess environmental aspects and associated impacts. This unit includes:
Element 5: Controlling air emissions
Element 6: Controlling environmental noise
Element 7: Controlling the contamination of water resources
Element 8: Controlling waste and land use
Element 9: Sources and use of energy and energy efficiency
The syllabus covers the practical issues of managing environmental risk, taking a risk management approach, and the best practices you can implement whilst adhering to international industry standards. Learners will learn how to complete an environmental review of the workplace and collate a report for management that includes recommendations for improvement.
This qualification will take around 5 days to complete, including taught hours, private study and background reading.

Upon completion of the course, your results will be provided by NEBOSH. This usually takes around 10-12 weeks after the exam, and your certificate will arrive after the results are announced.
The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate course is equivalent to a Level 3 qualification on the NQF, or a Level 6 on the SCQF.
There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, NEBOSH recommends that learners have a good standard of the English language before starting, to communicate effectively and articulate the syllabus, ideally a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher.
The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate comprises two assessments. Unit EMC1 is assessed via an open-book exam, and unit EMC2 is evaluated via an environmental risk assessment, carried out at your own workplace. Both assessments must be passed to be awarded the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate.
Many professionals use the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate as a stepping stone to complete a NEBOSH Diploma, which is a degree-level qualification. This can provide evidence to prove a learner’s expertise as a professional.
