  • Element 9: Sources and use of energy and energy efficiency


The syllabus covers the practical issues of managing environmental risk, taking a risk management approach, and the best practices you can implement whilst adhering to international industry standards. Learners will learn how to complete an environmental review of the workplace and collate a report for management that includes recommendations for improvement.

What Level is The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate?

The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate course is equivalent to a Level 3 qualification on the NQF, or a Level 6 on the SCQF.

Are There Any Entry Requirements?

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, NEBOSH recommends that learners have a good standard of the English language before starting, to communicate effectively and articulate the syllabus, ideally a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher.

How Is The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate Assessed?

The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate comprises two assessments. Unit EMC1 is assessed via an open-book exam, and unit EMC2 is evaluated via an environmental risk assessment, carried out at your own workplace. Both assessments must be passed to be awarded the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate.
